Report: Man City star tells friends he won’t be at the club next year

Manchester City star Jack Grealish has reportedly told friends he doesn’t expect to still be with Pep Guardiola’s side next season.

A year on from Grealish’s £100million move to Man City and it hasn’t quite clicked yet. There was a feeling the 27-year-old would step up this term after a first season at the club that, while steady enough, did not live up to expectations on an individual level.

That is yet to happen and, even though injury has limited him to just one Premier League start this season, disquiet over his performances is growing with plenty questioning his selection in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

The England star responded admirably during Man City’s 3-0 win over Wolves yesterday, putting in a top performance and the winger even grabbed himself a goal.

The England international still has five years left to run on his contract at Etihad Stadium, but there has been speculation surrounding his long-term future, having found it difficult to make a big impression for the English champions.

According to Football Insider, Grealish has told his friends that he doesn’t expect to be at Man City next season.

Privately, the England star believes that City’s playing style is failing to bring out the best of his individual qualities and he fears he made a mistake joining a team with such strict passing patterns.

Grealish has appeared six times for City this season, with his 400 minutes of action yielding a single goal and no assist.

There is still plenty of time for the winger to get back to his best at the Etihad and with five years remaining on his contract, it is hard to see Grealish leaving the Manchester club next summer.

Grealish was linked with a number of clubs, including Manchester United, before he made the move to Man City in August 2021.

The playmaker scored 32 goals and registered 43 assists in 213 appearances for Villa, including seven goals and 12 assists in 27 outings during the 2020-21 campaign.

Grealish will soon link up with the England squad for their UEFA Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany before returning to Man City to prepare for a busy October.
