Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano has shed light on the interest levels of Manchester City, Chelsea, Totherham and Paris Saint-Germain in Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakia international, who remains one of Serie A’s most formidable centre-halves, is in the prime of his career and Inter are having trouble tying him down to fresh terms.
The Slovakia international has entered the final year of his contract with the Nerazzurri, who are at risk of losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
Skriniar will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January, and he was the subject of interest from numerous clubs in the most recent window.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were both linked with a move for the 27-year-old, while Paris Saint-Germain were understood to have shown the strongest interest in signing him.
The Sun on Saturday claimed Manchester City have now joined in the race for Skriniar as they seek a high-profile free agent swoop.
Now, writing for Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano detailed the interest levels of the three English sides. However, he stressed the frontrunner to sign Skriniar at present is PSG.
“There’s a lot of talk at the moment of English clubs,” wrote Romano. “But my understanding is that the most interested in Milan Skriniar remains Paris Saint-Germain.
“Manchester City and Spurs have not made any proposal or approach, while Chelsea were focused on signing Wesley Fofana this summer.”
Man City signed Akanji from Borussia Dortmund, bringing their centre-back tally to five. A move to the Etihad looks a virtual non-starter.
Aside from the Switzerland international, Pep Guardiola can also call upon Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake.
