Manchester City will welcome Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium this Wednesday night as they focus on collecting another three points in their UEFA Champions League group.
The Citizens eased to a 4-0 success over a struggling Sevilla side on matchday one, with Erling Braut Haaland netting twice alongside strikes from Phil Foden and Ruben Dias.
Pep Guardiola’s side were scheduled to continue the defence of their Premier League title against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, but all fixtures were postponed following Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
Team News:
For Manchester City, the absentee list has grown. Kyle Walker and John Stones are still likely to miss out after missing the game against Sevilla, although John Stones injury will recover sooner than Kyle Walker’s.
Aymeric Laporte is still out, but is nearing a return as Pep Guardiola has stated the start of October could be the date we see him back.
Kalvin Phillips returned against Sevilla, and Jack Grealish played his part too which strengthens City immensely.
Manchester City Predicted Lineup
Defense
Ederson will feature in goal for Man City after he kept a well-deserved clean sheet in his last European appearance. Manuel Akanji will function alongside Ruben Dias at the heart of Guardiola’s defence as they try to keep the Dortmund attackers at bay during the 90 minutes.
Joao Cancelo will fill in at right-back while Sergio Gomez gets another chance to impress on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will get the license to get forward and express themselves in the opponent’s half in midweek.
Nathan Ake will provide cover for the defensive positions on the bench. However, John Stones will probably miss this clash due to a muscle injury.
Midfield
Man City’s midfield could be comprised of Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne. The gifted trio will be given the responsibility to dominate the game at the centre of the park and orchestrate enough opportunities for Man City to emerge victorious in this midweek game.
Cole Palmer, Ilkay Gundogan and Kalvin Phillips will all be a part of Guardiola’s bench as they wait for their chance to impress in the second 45 minutes if needed.
Attack
Jack Grealish might retain his place on the left flank while Phil Foden hopes to give a good account of himself from the right.
Erling Haaland will spearhead Guardiola’s attack once again down the middle. The Norwegian striker is enjoying his time at Manchester and has been in a great run of form of late. Hence, we can expect him to fancy his chances of scoring against his old club this Wednesday night.
Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez will be named on the bench and might come on to feature in this match as the impact substitutes if Man City are in need of a goal late in the game.
