Manchester City have announced their 21-man travelling squad to face Sevilla in their Champions League group-stage opener on Tuesday evening.
City begin the 2022/23 Champions League adventure against the La Liga side on Tuesday evening with a 20.00 (UK) kick-off.
Pep Guardiola’s side take on Sevilla in the Champions League tomorrow, but they will be doing it without John Stones and Kyle Walker, who have been left out of the squad.
According to Simon Bajkowski, while John Stones did train this morning, he will join Kyle Walker on the list of players who don’t make the trip to Sevilla.
Kyle Walker’s injury was clear, as he limped off on Saturday against Aston Villa, but John Stones injury has not been heard of before today.
A total of 20 outfield players were spotted in first-team training on Monday morning, including academy quartet Rico Lewis, Ben Knight, Josh Wilson-Esbrand, Cole Palmer – as well as new signing Manuel Akanji.
Here is Manchester City’s confirmed 21-man travelling squad for their opening Champions League group-stage tie of the season.
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Scott Carson.
Defenders: Rico Lewis, Joao Cancelo, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Sergio Gomez, Josh Wilson-Esbrand.
Midfielders: Kalvin Phillips, Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva.
Forwards: Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish.
The fact John Stones is not making the trip is a clear example of why Manuel Akanji was signed, and it is less of a situation due to his presence.
Akanji may now make his debut for Pep Guardiola’s side tomorrow, or Nathan Ake will fill in for John Stones in his absence.
This 21-man travelling squad list shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters, who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on the matter.
