Manchester City may be looking to sign Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for £80m this summer, despite his £100m release clause. The Magpies reportedly have a verbal agreement with the player to begin talks with Champions League teams who offer over £80m. City have already reached out to Guimaraes’ representatives about a potential transfer, attracted by his ability to play multiple midfield roles.
Newcastle is facing financial pressure to sell players due to Premier League regulations, with Guimaraes and teammate Alexander Isak being their most valuable assets. The club is more inclined to sell Guimaraes this summer to comply with Profit and Sustainability rules. However, City could face competition from Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, who have also shown interest in the Brazilian midfielder.
Arsenal has been tracking Guimaraes for years, with City’s main competition likely to come from PSG and the Gunners. However, Arsenal may prioritize signing a new striker, potentially giving City the advantage in securing a deal for Guimaraes. The 26-year-old’s availability is expected to attract other suitors, but City’s interest in his versatile playing style could give them an edge in negotiations.
