Pep Guardiola is the latest to have his say on Todd Boehly’s controversial all-stars game idea, which he suggested at a recent conference.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly suggested earlier this week that the Premier League should have a north vs south All-Star game to help fund the rest of English football’s league pyramid.
However, the all-star idea took the headlines, and there has only mostly been a negative reaction from the likes of Jürgen Klopp, David Moyes, Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and many more.
The idea has been derided in some quarters, though Boehly has received praise in others for thinking outside the box.
Regardless, one particular group within football appear almost unanimously against the idea – the managers.
“When he finds a date for that, he can call me. In American sports, these players have four-month breaks,” Klopp mocked.
“Maybe he can explain that. I’m not sure people want to see that – [Manchester] United players, Liverpool players, Everton players altogether. North-east, too, so Newcastle. It is not the national team. All the London guys together, Arsenal, Tottenham, great. Did he really say it?”
Steven Gerrard also dismissed the idea in rather more polite terms. Now, Man City’s Pep Guardiola has weighed in and echoed Klopp’s stance.
Asked what he thought, Guardiola added: “I don’t have opinion. No, no. I don’t have opinion. I agree with Jurgen [Klopp]. If they give me the dates when this should be played it would be nice…”
