‘Why sell Zinchenko then?’ – Man City fans react as Club stand firm in Marc Cucurella approach with deal now in Jeopardy

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have threatened to walk away from negotiations with Brighton for left back Marc Cucurella until next summer.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko on his way to Arsenal, Manchester City will be in the market for another left-back this summer.

Manchester City and Guardiola have reportedly identified Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marc Cucurella’s as their preferred replacement.

The reigning Premier League champions previously made a £30million bid for the Spaniard and the Seagulls rejected it as they value him at £50m.

According to Pol Ballus of The Athletic, both parties are still someway apart in their valuation of the player.

Brighton’s insistence on achieving £50 million for the Catalan defender has led to the Sky Blues being ‘close’ to walking away from the negotiating table.

Pol Ballus writes that the Premier League Champions are willing to pay up to £40 million for the left-back, but are close to exiting discussions and exploring alternative options.

City’s only recognised left-back is Joao Cancelo, so they will be keen for another – which ultimately leaves Brighton able to drive up the price, as they have no need to sell.

Talks between Manchester City and Brighton are expected to continue in the coming days, as both parties seek to break the impasse which has been hit.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Worst decision we’re gonna make if we don’t have another equally good option lined up.”

“Wow what a surprise. Sporting director of the year award for whoever sanctioned the Zinchenko sale.”

“All that good work at the start of the window will end up in disappointment if we don’t sign a left back. Fancy letting Zinchenko go without a guarenteed replacement. It’s just so naive. So stupid.”

“I don’t blame the club for walking away but I know we ain’t signing a LB now. Another season without a recognised LB? When will it end? And don’t say JWE he’s still too young”

“Correct decision by my club. 50 milli is over paying regardless of player contract remaining time imo.”

“People saying City don’t have a LB but Cancelo was quite literally the best LB in the Prem last year if not the world. But considering City were already short in FB depth it’s bad business either way. Should’ve kept Zinny and bought a RB.”

“Good. £30M-£40M is the right price. Cucurella isn’t a £50M player
I think Brighton need to accept the facts
The player wants to leave
He wants to join City
We’ve presented an extremely fair offer
We won’t be pressured into over paying
Just make it happen
Take the money.”

“Still think this is our last throw of dice. Cucurella’s agent travelled to Brighton yesterday to put pressure on them now we are on wait and watch. If Brighton started looking at LB options it’s done. Finger crossed.”
