‘Never would’ve signed him anyway’ – Many fans react as report claims Man City tried to hijack Barcelona move for Jules Kounde

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club tried to hijack Barcelona’s move for Jules Kounde.

Jules Kounde became one of the most highly sought-after players in the transfer market this summer on the back of three top-notch seasons with Sevilla.

The 23-year-old established himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga while also becoming a regular for the French national side.

The Premier League champions were said to have been interested in Sevilla’s Jules Kounde before he signed for Barcelona, but that wasn’t the case.

The Blues thought about submitting an improved offer to prise the 23-year-old away from Sevilla but eventually decided against it and are now scouring the market for alternatives.

After securing his move to the Nou Camp, reports in France emerged that City tried to hijack the transfer at the last minute, but the Frenchman turned them down and completed his switch to Barcelona.

The interest from Manchester City is a tad-bit surprising, considering Pep Guardiola has four top-class centre-backs at his disposal. While Aymeric Laporte might miss the start of the 2022/23 season, the Manchester City manager still seems to have enough resources in the central defensive unit.

However, Sevilla Director of Football, Monchi as per Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed Man City made offer for Jules Koundé this summer.

“The offers we had – two years ago from Man City, last year from Chelsea, and this year from
Man City and Barcelona – were for the same amount…”

These Monchi’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“I would be fuming if we let go Ake for Kounde, what a Champions League run Ake had last year, my man single handedly destroyed Atletico attack.”

“Lol it’s bias, he says that cause Sevilla fans are mad about them for selling Koundé to a direct rival for less money than Chelsea offered”

“Obviously Barcelona will be better for him. Why is this such a big deal. City wanted him in case of ake’s transfer and also he would have been 4th choice CB at City and first choice at Barca. No brainer. All the hype of kounde like he is prime Ramos or something.”
