‘Another Harry Kane situation’, ‘Just get it done or move on’ – Man City fans react as Brighton strengthen their resolve to keep Marc Cucurella

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Brighton have strengthened their resolve to keep Marc Cucurella, despite the player desperately wanting to sign for Pep Guardiola’s side.

City want to sign a left-back after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, but Brighton have set an asking price of £50m for Cucurella.

The Spaniard has made a huge impact since joining Graham Potter’s side for £15.4m from Getafe last year. The player, who turns 24 on Friday, quickly adapted to English football and City have made him one of their top targets.

Cucurella is understood to be interested in joining the champions and there is a feeling that the deal will go through. However, City hope to pay less than £50m and there is a chance that they could walk away if Brighton hold firm on their valuation of a player who has four years on his deal.

According to Andy Naylor via The Athletic UK, Brighton have strengthened their resolve to keep Marc Cucurella unless Man City meet their £50M+ asking price.

Andy Naylor states that Man City’s opening bid of £30M was regarded at the Amex Stadium as laughable. Talks are ongoing over the future of the left-back.

As per the Journalist, Sources at Brighton believe it is highly unlikely that Man City will meet their valuation for Marc Cucurella. Brighton have also pushed back at suggestions on social media that Cucurella is unhappy or unsettled by the club’s stance.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Laughable? As if he really costs £50M.”

“I’m ok with them wanting the most money out of this. That’s normal business. But saying he ‘d be glad to stay… Come on. 1 year ago he didn’t even know Brighton existed and now he’d rather stay there to play 10th than playing Champion’s League Football? Hard to believe frankly.”

“I did not expect city one bit to not have this deal almost complete prior to selling Zinchenko. Completely misread the situation. How are we 2 weeks from starting the season with 2 fullbacks.”

“This is really starting to remind me of Harry Kane all over again. Just get it done or move on. Enough of this sh*t”

“£30M is lowballing quite drasticly. You’re negotiating with another Prem club for a player who has 4yrs on his contract and was just awarded their player of the year. Also the stats show he created more than any of our fullbacks. simply pay up or move on. Need a LB!!!!”

“Why are we wasting our time if we have no intention of paying close to 50m? Just move on and bring in another left back. We simply cannot go into the season with only 2 senior full backs at the club. It’s negligence..”

“Let’s break this down real quick because I’m tired of bad takes on this app. Firstly, City are bluffing and will meet/pay a figure close to the valuation set by Brighton. £50M+ is excessive but he is definitely a £50M player. Look at the state of this market. We’re not in ’07..”

“The number of people on here who just instantly believe sources that provide negative views is hilarious. The guy is a Brighton source, of course he’s going to say stuff that’ll make their fans happy. It’s normal.”

“Will probably be £40m and £10m in add ons.
If that’s not enough then walk away and leave Brighton with an unhappy player like we did with Spurs and Kane.”
