Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side have agreed a deal for Gavin Bazunu, with a medical due to take place in the coming days.
Bazunu remains highly thought of at the Etihad and was in regular contact with City coach Xabier Mancisidor during his hugely successful loan spell at Fratton Park last term.
He has become a fan favourite, while on loan at Portsmouth and kept 16 clean sheets for Danny Cowley’s side this season. After a successful loan, it remains to be seen whether City will keep him at the club next season or send them on loan.
Southampton have been heavily linked with a move for Bazunu with Reports last week stating that the Premier League side would pay £10 million for the former Shamrock Rovers starlet, though that has not yet been confirmed.
According to Journalist David Sneyd via The24, Gavin Bazunu will become a Southampton player after Manchester City accepted a package that could be worth up to €18.5 million (£16m) for the 20-year-old goalkeeper.
David Sneyd claims that the Republic of Ireland international will now undergo a medical today before finalising the move, and will then be unveiled by the Premier League club who have been in negotiations over his transfer for much of the past week.
A separate report from the Athletic claims Southampton have completed a deal to sign Gavin Bazunu and have paid £12 million, which could rise to a fee in the region of £15 million in potential add-ons. It is thought the deal also includes a buy-back clause.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“I support this transfer 100%…….I am rooting for him to succeed honestly. I see this as Chelsea/ Athletico vibe with Courtios. I pray he proves me and fan base right.”

“I’m unhappy we’re letting him go, but £16M is alright for a player that has never debuted for the first team, still think he’s worth £20M. Hopefully, *hopefully* there is a buyback clause”

“16 million is an insane price. Great job by the club. Best of luck to Bazunu for the coming years and hopefully we’ll see him back at City and possibly as No. 1.”
