Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is willing to offer Paul Pogba a four-year contract, with the option of a further year.

Multiple reports late last night more or less confirmed that Manchester City are considering signing Paul Pogba on a free transfer once his Manchester United contract expires this summer,

The 29-year-old has entered the final two months of his existing contract with the Red Devils and is seemingly certain to head for the exit door when those terms expire.

While he has been largely consigned to a bench role this term, Fernandinho has confirmed that he will be leaving the Premier League champions at the end of the campaign.

As a result, Guardiola has supposedly identified Pogba as an ideal transfer candidate ahead of the 2022-23 season, with the Catalan coach seeking a versatile lynchpin amid uncertainty over Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan’s long-term futures as well.

According to Will Unwin for the Guardian, City are willing to offer the 29-year-old a four-year contract, with an option for a further year – while the player would accept lower wages than he currently earns.

As per Unwin, Pogba is interested in working with Guardiola, who is said to believe that the predominantly attacking midfielder could operate in a deeper role. The Guardian also cite Paris Saint-Germain as an interested party.

City certainly have the financial muscle to table a sizeable contract to Pogba, who currently earns £290,000-per-week at Old Trafford, which would please the 29-year-old from a personal point of view.

However, under transfer regulations, City cannot make a formal offer to Pogba until the end of the season, which gives overseas clubs an advantage as they have been able to formally discuss a move with the player and his representatives since the turn of the year.

This would be an incredible transfer story should it happen and it is one that won’t go down well with the red half of Manchester. Signing Pogba would be a shock, as it is a move nobody would have seen coming.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
