‘Bad news but he deserve it’, ‘Good luck to him’ – Many fans react as Man City First-Team Coach Set to Leave Club at the End of the Season

Manchester City first-team coach Carlos Vicens will be leaving the club at the end of the 2021/2022 season, to take on a managerial role in the Netherlands.

Pep Guardiola promoted the former Manchester City U18s head coach to his first-team set-up last summer, to primarily work on set-pieces and to provide a link to the academy.

Carlos Vicens has made City the best in the Premier League from dead-ball situations. City have scored 18 goals from dead-ball situations this season – two more than any other team – including the first two goals in a tricky clash at Elland Road at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side have also only conceded one goal. The net score of +17 is better than any team has managed in Premier League history.

As per an official statement from Dutch club Heracles Almelo, Manchester City first-team coach Carlos Vicens will be taking over as the side’s head coach in the summer of 2022.

The statement from the Eredivisie side on Friday afternoon read, “Carlos Vicens will succeed Frank Wormuth as head coach of Heracles Almelo this summer.”

“The Spanish coach comes over from Manchester City where he is currently assistant coach. Vicens signs a contract in Almelo until mid-2024.”

Heracles Almelo close their official statement by stating that as both they and Manchester City are in ‘an important phase of the season’, Carlos Vicens will be officially presented as their manager after the current season.

The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from Man City supporters.

“Guardiola’s coaching staff to a first team manager, not the first time, is it? This man’s legacy will go on to stay even after he retires from coaching, even if he never wins a Champions League again. What an icon.”
