‘We are finished!’, ‘Who gonna play at RB?’ – Man City fans react as Pep Guardiola confirms double injury blow ahead of Real Madrid clash

Pep Guardiola has revealed a potential double injury blow for his Manchester City squad ahead of the Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid.

Walker has not trained since he twisted his ankle in the goalless second leg of the quarter-final away to Atletico Madrid and was forced to limp off, while Stones has not been with the squad since last week’s game against Brighton.

Pep Guardiola revealed in his pre-match press conference that the pair were major doubts for the game, and neither were deemed fit enough to train with the squad in their final session before Real come to the Etihad.

Guardiola said at lunchtime: “We have a training session today and see how the players are. Tonight, tomorrow, we decide the lineup. I wait for the training session to see how they feel. I’m sure players will play in positions they aren’t used but they will do their best.”

Asked specifically about Stones and Walker, he said: “They are doubts, they didn’t train for the last week to ten days and John since Brighton.”

“We’ll see how they feel, we’ll speak to them tomorrow and then make the decision.”

These Guardiola’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Given it sounds like Walker/Stones are losing their race to be fit, I think Aké is probably the correct choice at RB. Hardly ideal. But he’s got a better right foot than Zin, who we’ll need for his build-up at LB.”

As per Manchester Evening News, John Stones and Kyle Walker were both unable to train with the Manchester City squad today (Monday), virtually ruling both of them out of the game at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

With Joao Cancelo suspended, the Blues have no senior player who have played in the right-back position. It means Pep Guardiola will be forced to use a makeshift right back against the Spanish giants.
