Raheem Sterling admits he is in a happier place at Manchester City in recent months, but still refused to be drawn on whether he will sign a new contract.
There has been plenty of talk about Sterling heading to Spain and testing himself in La Liga. He could be the subject of transfer interest this summer, with clubs looking to capitalise on his devalued price, and he has been linked with a move to AC Milan in the last week.
The attacker’s current contract at the Etihad expires in 2023, meaning he could begin negotiations about a potential free move away from City in just nine months’ time.
Speaking ahead of City’s Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid on Tuesday, Sterling was asked whether he had any more updates regarding contract talks or his future plans, but the England international declined to commit himself either way.
“At the minute I’m just happy to be playing, happy to be contributing with the team,” he said, hinting at a decision after the season concludes.
“I think that’s the most important thing. At this period, I think it would be selfish of me to speak of any contract situation and I’m just happy to be playing football and see where we are at the end of the season.”
These Sterling’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Sorry but we need to sell him now otherwise he’ll leave for free because the way he’s playing he won’t get a contract extension.”

“Keep Jesus. Sell Sterling.
Sterling more stagnated, demanding high salary and have more economic value. With Mahrez ageing, we need atleast 2 new wingers this summer and next summer.”
