Man City suffer double injury blow with Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker forced off in Atletico tie

Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker have both limped off from Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Atletico Madrid with their own respective injuries.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola brought on Raheem Sterling for De Bruyne with his side under pressure from the home side.

And what appeared to be a tactical switch later proved different as De Bruyne was seen applying ice to his foot and ankle.

The Belgian is now a doubt for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Liverpool.

Minutes later Kyle Walker went down injured after colliding with Lodi following a clearance.

After some lengthy treatment, the England international attempted to carry on before going down and asking the Manchester City bench to make a substitution – Nathan Aké his replacement.

Earlier on in the game, Phil Foden had to have his head bandaged after being sent crashing to the floor by a dangerous challenge from Felipe, who somehow escaped a caution for the foul.

Foden was sent flying again from another Felipe challenge in the closing stages of normal time which led to an ugly melee involving both sets of players after Stefan Savic had reacted furiously to the England international lying on the floor. Felipe received a second yellow and Savic was also booked.

Savic appeared to aim a headbutt at a City player and also pulled Jack Grealish’s hair after the City substitute had something to him during the commotion.

The injuries have come at a bad time for City as they face Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday and are going toe-to-toe with Jurgen Klopp’s side for the Premier League title.
