Ilkay Gundogan has admitted Erling Haaland would improve every top team in world football as Manchester City continue to be linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker.

The Blues are trying to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker as they look to belatedly replace Sergio Aguero in their team, having failed to land a marquee forward in the last summer transfer window.

The Citizens are believed to be leading the race for the 21-year-old’s signature, while La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on his situation.

Various reports claim the reigning Premier League champions are the firm favourites to sign the imperious Norwegian who has contributed a sensational 23 goals and six assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.

Gundogan was put up for media duties with Germany on Friday morning ahead of their match against Israel this weekend, and the City midfielder was quizzed by reporters on the feasibility of Haaland lining up at the Etihad. Asked if Haaland and Guardiola would work at City, Gundogan answered : “Yes, Haaland has the quality for every top team.

Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t played with a striker regularly since Sergio Aguero’s heyday, but Gundogan claimed a hypothetical partnership between Haaland and City would work.

“It’s a long time ago that we played with a classical striker. I think he is a player with big qualities who fits into every team,” he said.

These Gundogan’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
