Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays an update on the future of the club’s captain Fernandinho.
An indisputable fact remains that ever since Fernandinho’s arrival at Manchester City in 2013, the Brazilian has rightly etched his name as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever defensive midfielders.
The 36-year-old midfielder, who has spent the last eight and a half years with the Citizens, signed a one-year contract extension in the summer, which is due to expire in June 2022.
While the ageing midfielder may be past his unparalleled best, and with the Brazilian international no longer commands a starting place as Rodri is first-choice under Pep Guardiola, he continues to remain a stellar operator on and off the field.
But, with the Brazilian’s contract expiring at the end of this season, it is unclear if he will continue to play for the Blues beyond this season.
According to the latest information of Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, the direction of the final stages of Fernandinho’s career are to be discussed soon.
McGrath hasn’t ruled out another extension at City for the player, and there have also been suggestions that the captain could join Guardiola’s coaching staff.
The report states the 36-year-old could yet stay at Man City for another year but the club will assess the market for an eventual successor.
Guardiola is a big fan of Fernandinho too, praising his leadership qualities in December 2021 and insisting he’s vital to the squad in February 2022, so City could be happy to keep him for another year.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters – here are some of the best responses.
