‘It’s a bit excessive’, ‘We have to look at Liverpool, they use money smartly’ – Erling Haaland Update has Many Man City fans react talking

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report to yet another update on the club’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Braut Haaland ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Blues are trying to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker as they look to belatedly replace Sergio Aguero in their team, having failed to land a marquee forward in the last summer transfer window.

The Citizens are believed to be leading the race for the 21-year-old’s signature, while La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on his situation.

According to a report by Ruben Uria writing for Goal, Manchester City have the funds in place to finance a deal over €200 million for Haaland – including his release clause, wages, agent fees and other add-ons.

As per the report, City view Haaland as a ‘definitive’ signing that would help them go all the way in Europe and finally win the Champions League.

Ruben Uria went further to claim that Haaland would demand a net annual salary in the region of €20-25 million – a figure which can be matched by Manchester City and Real Madrid, the two sides who have been labelled as the leading contenders in the race to sign the Leeds-born forward.

In light to the update, many Man City fans have reacted – here are some of the best responses.

“So release clause is €75m and we’re gonna end up spending €200m. Raiola is getting paid.”

“He’s a great player and all but €200m for 1 player? think it’s a bit excessive.”

“In all honesty, he’s not all that..”

“Haaland has to want to play for City more than he wants to be paid an obscene amount of money! Man City have walked away before and should do again when the motivation of the player is not as it should be. I would rather we sign a ‘good forward’ than a ‘money motivated’ forward!.”

“Fair enough. £320-400k is more than worth it. David De Gea is on £375k. Sancho is on £300k. Ronaldo is on like £600k.”

“I still would prefer we get Lewandowski and extend Pep’s contract, because I have difficulty understanding how we’re going to work with a team with ST in the names of E. Haaland, J. Alvarez and L. Delap + they all U22 players…”

“We can get 4 good players with that money. We have to look at Liverpool, they use money smartly.”
