Manchester City have set a Champions League knockout record for biggest first-half lead in an away match with a four-score outburst against Sporting CP on Tuesday.
The reigning Premier League champions were in blistering form as they set a new Champions League record against Sporting Lisbon.
Pep Guardiola’s side took one step into the quarter-finals of the competition after just 45 minutes of their last-16 tie against Sporting Lisbon as they took complete control in Portugal.
City ran riot as they took a 4-0 lead inside the opening 45 minutes of the first leg of the tie, with Sporting blown away as the visitors underlined their credentials as favourites for the trophy.
As per Opta, Manchester City are the first team in Champions League history to lead an away game by 4+ goals at half-time in the knockout stages of the competition.

I’ve said this multiple times About 1/2 of the team and Pep’s era at city in general just need that one CL to be in all time era defining players and teams list. This ain’t even a stretch. Would be a calamity if this team doesn’t win the CL cuz that’s what u need to be remembered
