‘Try again blues’, ‘Launch another bid’, ‘He’s a baller’ – Man City fans react to claims the club Made €50 Million Bid For Atletico Madrid Star in 2020

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club made an attempt to sign Atlético Madrid left-back, Renan Lodi in 2020.

Lodi was signed from Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense prior to the 2019/20 campaign and he has made 104 appearances in all competitions for Atletico Madrid so far.

The Brazilian has not looked convincing so far this season in his natural left-back position, but produced an outstanding performance for the second consecutive game for Atletico Madrid in a more advanced role.

According to Sky journalist Matteo Moretto as relayed by City Xtra, Manchester City made an offer of around €50 million to sign Renan Lodi in 2020.

The reports states that ‘many’ clubs were looking to sign the player, including Serie A giants AS Roma.

Man City will be on the lookout for a new left-sided full-back, with Benjamin Mendy’s career at the club all but over.

Pep Guardiola has been using Joao Cancelo as his preferred option in the position, and the Portuguese international has excelled as well.

However, he is naturally a right-back, while backup option Oleksandr Zinchenko’s future has been called into action due to his reduced minutes.

Nathan Ake is another player who is capable of slotting in at left-back. However, the Dutchman would not provide the same level of tactical flexibility and attacking intent that someone like Cancelo does.

So, it makes sense for the Cityzens to bring in Renan Lodi who can provide cover for Cancelo and grow into the role in the years to come. There is no denying his quality as one of the stand-out left-backs in world football.

The defender has a deal at Atletico until 2025, which means the Spanish club can demand top dollar when they offload him.
