Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero, the man who provided one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 due to a heart condition.

The striker spent a decade at Manchester City before joining Barcelona this summer. A decade at City saw him win five Premier League titles, six League Cups and an FA Cup, scoring 260 goals in 390 appearances.

Aguero scored 260 goals for City between 2011-2021. Possibly his most famous came at the end of that debut season, when he slammed in a dramatic late winner against QPR to seal City’s first top-flight title in 44 years.

In an emotional press conference, he said it was “a very difficult moment” but that he took the decision for his health.

“The decision I have taken for my health; the problem I had a month and a half ago,” Aguero said.

“I made the decision 10 days ago after doing everything possible to have some hope of playing on. I am very proud of my career.”

He added: “I will leave with my head held high. I don’t know what awaits me in the next part of my life. But I know I have people who love me. I will always remember the amazing things.”

Following Aguero’s emotional retirement announcement, Manchester City fans have been sharing their gratitude and support across social media.
