Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Fernandinho has an ‘official invitation’ from Pep Guardiola to work as part of his staff following retirement.
The 36-year-old, who has spent the last eight and a half years with the Citizens, signed a one-year contract extension in the summer, which is due to expire in June 2022.
The Brazilian midfielder, who has only started three games in a Manchester City shirt this season, has been linked with a return to Brazil in the New Year, with reports suggesting Atletico Mineiro were set to landing the midfielder.
Fernandinho will be free to agree a move in January, with some suggestions that the 36-year-old could have been on his way as early as the New Year.
But ESPN Brazil correspondent Joao Castelo-Branco had cleared up the speculation, by confirming that there’s ‘no chance’ the player could leave Manchester City in January.
According to latest report from journalist Jorge Nicola via Sport Witness, Fernandinho already has an ‘official invitation’ from Pep Guardiola to work as part of his Man City staff following retirement.
The report states that the Man City captain has not decided whether he will continue to play beyond next summer. It’s something which he’s set to consider but he has not made a decision yet.
Fernandinho has been a fantastic servant to Man City since joining the club from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, making 365 appearances across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and registering 31 assists.
The 53-cap Brazil international has won a total of 13 domestic trophies with the Citizens, including four Premier League titles, but the midfielder will be hoping to get his hands on more silverware in the second half of the campaign.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
