Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have been ‘working on’ Brendan Rodgers for ‘years’ as potential successor to Pep Guardiola.
Rodgers, who has been Leicester‘s manager since February 2019, has been tipped by many to take over from Guardiola, who has just one season remaining on his current Manchester City deal – following the conclusion of the ongoing 2021/2022 campaign.
Rodgers had emerged as one of United’s primary target to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but is reportedly ‘reluctant’ to enter negotiations with United, ‘preferring to succeed’ Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
According to Jonathan Northcroft of the Sunday Times on the latest edition of the Transfer Window podcast, City have been ‘working on’ Brendan Rodgers for ‘years’, with the current Leicester manager aware that the club like him and would be interested if/when Pep Guardiola departs.
“Manchester City have been working on Brendan Rodgers for years. He’s been on their list for years,” Northcroft said on the subject of Manchester City and their interest in Rodgers.
“He (Rodgers) knows that they like him, they let him know that they like him on the basis that if we ever come to change Pep Guardiola, or when Pep leaves, we’d be interested in you.”
It is believed that Guardiola will indeed leave the Etihad when his contract expires in the summer of 2023, meaning that the club will already be hunting down the perfect replacement for City’s most successful ever manager.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.

I don’t see why everyone is against this? Got a mediocre Liverpool to almost win a premier league, made Leicester a top 6 club in a season? Guys a genius I’d 100% take him

He would be perfect, I mean he already won you a league title in 13/14 😂

His ideas and systems are elite, I have no doubts he’ll succeed when/if the time comes.
