Manchester City‘s Ferran Torres hands Spain the lead in their Nations League semi-final against Italy.

The Spanish international was once again amongst the goals for La Roja tonight as the Manchester City winger bagged a brace against holding European champions Italy in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.

The former Valencia starlet and academy graduate put Spain 2-0 up just before half-time thanks to two assists from Real Sociedad maestro Mikel Oyarzabal.

La Roja have been dominant in the early stages, especially down the left hand side, and it’s from there that their goal has come.

Mikel Oyarzabal swung in a brilliant cross, and Ferran Torres had timed his run perfectly to meet it on the penalty spot. It wasn’t an easy finish, but he guided the ball home perfectly, adjusting his body shape to ensure it found the back of the net.

Ferran Torres later nods in Spain’s second against Italy on the stroke of halftime.

However, take nothing away from their second which is reminiscent of the Spain of old. The delightful team build-up was then finished off from close range by Torres.

It was the 11th and 12th international goals for Torres, who has achieved an impressive strike rate for his country in just 21-caps since his debut thirteen months ago against Germany in a 1-1 draw at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Torres was taken off just after half-time by Luis Enrique with fears of a potential hamstring injury, while a chance for a second international hat-trick went begging.

Man City fans, then, were all over Twitter praising Torres for his display. Here’s what some of them had to say on Twitter…
