‘You’re pocketing him anyway’ – Fans reacts to Ruben Dias’ ‘brilliant response’ on Lionel Messi ahead of PSG clash

Ruben Dias says Manchester City want Lionel Messi to play against them as Paris Saint-Germain sweat on his fitness, which has got many fans talking.

The Manchester powerhouse began their Champions League adventure vs RB Leipzig on the 15th of September at the Etihad, coming out on top in that game, playing out a simply staggering nine-goal thriller, which the Sky Blues won 6-3.

Now, the Citizens need to turn their attention towards their 2nd Champions League match of the season, with Pep Guardiola’s side set to face off with PSG at the Parc des Princes this coming Tuesday, in what is, on paper, Man City’s toughest test of the 2021/22 group stage.

Ahead of the game, Man City have already been handed one boost in the form of Angel Di Maria being suspended for the tie.

And City did look to have been given another boost earlier in the week, when Lionel Messi was ruled out of PSG’s meeting with FC Metz with a bone bruise.

Despite the prospect of Messi being absent and potentially giving the visitors an advantage, Ruben Dias says City would prefer Messi to play on Tuesday.

“Messi is a phenomenal player and as a professional, you want to play against all those sorts of names,” Dias said.

“But whether it’s Messi, [Kylian] Mbappe, Neymar or [Mauro] Icardi, PSG have amazing strength in depth and no matter who it is we face, it’ll be a tough test. Everyone is looking forward to this game for exactly that reason.

“They (PSG) have obviously strengthened a lot all over the pitch. The signings they have made this season have been fantastic and it will be a different challenge to the team we faced last year.

“But they have also been one of the strongest teams in Europe for a number of years now.

“The likes of Ramos and Messi will add to their winning mentality, but when we played last season, they already had Neymar, Mbappe and [Angel] Di Maria.”

These Ruben Dias’ comment has prompt Plenty of Sky Blues to react on social media.
