Derby County boss Wayne Rooney has confirmed the club are interested in a deal for Manchester City youngster Liam Delap.
The youngster, who has been linked with a loan move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer, was instrumental in City winning the U-23 league last season, scoring 24 goals and assisted 5 in a sensational year for the youngster.
Delap, who is one of City’s most exciting youth prospects, has been promised a place in Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad this coming season after scoring a record 24 goals in Premier League 2 – and is a genuinely exciting prospect.
There has been plenty of speculation that the 18-year-old striker could go out on loan this season in order to gain some vital experience, with a long list of Championship clubs interested in securing the talents of the highly-rated striker this month.
Derby County have now also been linked with a potential move for Delap. with the Rams’ boss confirming the club’s interest in the Manchester City starlet.
Speaking to Derbyshire Live ahead of Derby’s opening game against Huddersfield Town, Rooney confirmed the Rams are interested in making a move for all three of Delap.
“Liam Delap is a player I really like. He has connections with Derby, he came through the Academy here,’ he said.
“Whatever Manchester City are doing with Liam, we are on top of that.”
With plenty of competition for his signature but an obvious connection back to Pride Park, it will be interesting to see if Derby County are successful in their efforts to recruit Delap this summer.
