Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims John Stones has put pen-to-paper on a new bumper five-year deal at the Etihad.
Stones formed a formidable partnership with Ruben Dias at the heart of City’s defence in 2020/21, with Guardiola’s men conceding just 12 league goals while the former Barnsley prodigy was on the pitch.
The England International, who was also named to the PFA Team of the Year last term, has just one year remaining on his Manchester City contract and club officials are keen to retain his services.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Manchester City defender has signed a new five-year contract at the club.
The report claim an announcement will be made by the Premier League club imminently, with Stones signing a deal worth a whopping £250,000-a-week that will keep the Englishman at the Etihad until 2026.
The defender made 35 appearances in all competitions last season as City won the Premier League and reached the final of the Champions League. In the time that he was on the pitch, Pep Guardiola’s side only conceded 12 goals.
The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, who took to the social media platform to share their thoughts and opinions.

Hmm I dont like this, 250k.. that now means everybody will want atleast 150k or there’ll be lockeroom tension and that

Senior most defender, here since 2016. So he’s part of the old guard now

Plus he’s already 27 so 5 year extension means this will probably be his last contract with us
The 250k is fine, worst case if he’s sold this extension will give us a good price
Win-win for everyone
