Manchester City are interested in signing Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann as Harry Kane alternatives as there are doubt over the club’s ability to get him through the door, claims a report.
When Griezmann signed for Barcelona from Atletico Madrid, it was with the intention to elevate their forward line to new levels.
However, It’s thought that Griezmann hasn’t really had the impact expected of a player who cost €120m in his two years at Barcelona and still doesn’t really have a natural place in the starting XI.
Meanwhile, Manchester City, who are in search of a new striker, are rumoured to be one of the frontrunners for Kane’s signature, and the Premier League champions are thought to be have made a £100m offer for the England captain.
But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to part ways with Kane this summer and has slapped a staggering £150m price tag on the marksman’s head to fend off potential suitors.
City have already had a £100m bid for the striker rebuffed, but they are expected to return with another bid after the European Championship.
Should the pursuit of Kane fail, Pep Guardiola’s side must definitely have a shortlist of alternatives, which could includes some of European football’s most lethal marksmen.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City could make a move for Antoine Griezmann if they are unable to sign Harry Kane this summer.
The report claims Barcelona may consider an exchange of three Manchester City players for Griezmann as they look to get rid of the Frenchman.
Bernardo Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Joao Cancelo are the three players from City’s squad that the La Liga club would like to sign up rather than have the English champions pay a transfer fee, the report adds.
The former Atletico Madrid man is a different type of player to Kane. While the Spurs marksman does like to drop deep, he is still an out-and-out centre-forward. Griezmann is more of a second striker who has also played out wide.
Yet perhaps that is why Guardiola likes him. He is said to be a long-time admirer of the Frenchman, who impressed for his international side at Euro 2020.
