Former Tottenham star and ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle has praise Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo, comparing his range of passing to Kevin De Bruyne’s.
The Portuguese star has become integral to Pep Guardiola’s attacking game this season after previously having a quiet start at the club.
The versatile full-back is now showcasing his best form, and he’s demonstrating exactly why Manchester City were willing to invest so much in his services to get him from Juventus.
His role for City sees him play as a conventional full-back when his side don’t have the ball, but slide in the center of the pitch when his side have possession.
He creates and overloads and can defend decently, making him one of the most offensive full-backs in the Premier League this season, despite playing on the opposite side.
The ex-England manager has praised the contribution Joao Cancelo comparing him to Kevin De Bruyne, especially in terms of passing the ball.
“He’s a very, very good passer of the ball. The thing is at the moment, Man City don’t get tested too much defensively, because they’ve got the ball the most of the time, so he hasn’t been tested that much defensively, but with the ball he’s excellent,” Hoddle said.
“Whether he plays in a back for, or he sneaks into midfield as an extra midfield player. He’s got a pass on him, he can hit passes and every now and then he’s like a De Bruyne passing it. You know, it’s like an added thing to their system.”
