Manchester City fans were impressed with John Stones’ performance in the 2-0 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach in their Champions League last-16 second leg at the Puskas Arena
The Cityzens strolled to a routine win against the Bundesliga outfit, securing a 4-0 victory on aggregate to cruise into the last-eight.
Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring with a fierce drive from outside the area before Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan linked up just six minutes later for City’s second goal on the evening.
John Stones played a part in both goals, starting the moves which led to his teammates finding the back of the net. He was flawless in an imperious performance that brought images of Vincent Kompany to mind.
If one were to look for what has changed to take Stones from City’s peripheries to the heart of the side it would be the assertiveness with which he defends, tackles have a visceral thud that echoes around empty grounds and ensures that there aren’t those curious errors that once threatened to define him.
Many City fans after the match took to Twitter to hail Stones’ exceptional performance against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Stones is exceptional. Hasn’t put a foot wrong all season.

John Stones is probably the best and most complete CB in the world this season. What a turn around, everytime he’s started we haven’t looked like conceding chances.
