Manchester City fans were impressed with Joao Cancelo’s performance in the 2-0 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach in their Champions League last-16 second leg at the Puskas Arena
The Cityzens strolled to a routine win against the Bundesliga outfit, securing a 4-0 victory on aggregate to cruise into the last-eight.
Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the Premier League leaders on 12 minutes, an effort which went in off the bar, before Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan linked up just six minutes later for City’s second goal on the evening.
The Sky Blues booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and had Cancelo among others to thank for steering them to victory.
The Portuguese has made City an even more threatening team going forward and has also given them more defensive rigour too through both ball retention and a complete commitment to the defensive expectations of a normal full-back.
Started at left-back but stepped up almost immediately and instantly threatened, setting up a chance for Phil Foden while remaining a constant outlet on the left flank for the hour he spent on the pitch. It remains impossible to for opposition sides to keep track of him.
Many City fans after the match took to Twitter to hail Cancelo’s ‘immense’ performance against Borussia Monchengladbach.

I’ve said this before but Cancelo does not get enough respect for how good he is. Dude’s a baller

There are many top full backs in the world. Trent, Davies, Jordi Alba, even Shaw on current form. But none get close to Cancelo right now. To do what he does and he never seems to be caught out, just world class.
