Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia has hinted that he is heading for a return to Barcelona at the end of the season, and have reportedly agreed a five-year deal with the La Liga club.
The defender, who is currently away with the Spain national squad, left Barca for City back in 2017 after nine years in the La Masia academy.
Garcia made his debut for Pep Guardiola’s side during the 2018/19 campaign, but he has never established himself as a regular starter.
The spain international has struggled to play first-team football consistently this season, with Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte ahead of him in the pecking order.
The 20-year-old’s contract expires in June, and he’s now confirmed that he won’t be signing a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Garcia was put in front of the media on Tuesday at Spain’s training camp and was asked about his future, with Barcelona are looking to bring the 20-year-old back to the Camp Nou next season.
“I made the decision (to not renew) at the time, what I will do later I do not know, now I am focused, on City and the national team,” he told Sport.
“(My future) is carried out by my representative; I am focused on this season, there is a last third where everything has to be played and now the three games with the national team.
“The people involved knew about it, and my relationship with Pep is the same as before the decision was made. I have a contract, and I am focused on City in case the manager thinks it is convenient that I should play.
“I was at Barça for nine years; in the end, I made the decision to go to Manchester, but I do have this feeling. I focus on what I can control, which is training one hundred percent, my representative, and when the season is over he will tell me.”
According to Sport, via Sport Witness, Garcia will sign a five-year contract at Barcelona and will become the FIRST signing of the new era under president Joan Laporta.
However, the report adds that an official announcement will be delayed until the end of the campaign as a sign of the youngster’s respect for Manchester City.
