Manchester City journalist Sam Lee claims the club are in need of a striker following their recent derby defeat to Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola’s side were on an English top-flight record run of 21 successive wins in all competitions heading into the Manchester derby.
But United ruined City’s 28-game unbeaten run in all competitions thanks a penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a second-half goal from Luke Shaw gave Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side victory over Pep Guardiola’s men.
The home side recorded 66% possession and managed to unleash 23 shots on goal but ultimately failed to convert past Dean Henderson.
With Aguero’s absence seemingly apparent, The Athletic’s City correspondent Lee believes the Cityzens are in need of a new frontman.
“Yeah, it’s so obvious City need a striker,” Lee told The Athletic’s discussion page.
“Too many missed chances and it’s not just a bad patch, it’s been happening for ages.
“They create so many chances it’s usually fine but games like this, and usually the biggest games in cup comps, it’s really noticeable.”
With the City’s all-time record goalscorer’s current deal at the Etihad due to expire next June, his future has been the subject of speculation recently, with Inter Milan and Barcelona reportedly interested in signing the striker.
