Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report that claims the club have offered David Alaba €15m per season in an attempt to beat Real Madrid to his signature.
City has been long linked with the Bayern Munich defender, with a number of European clubs credited with an interest in the defender over the last few months, with the prospect of signing the Austrian on a free transfer.
Alaba’s reported preference is Real Madrid, but recent reports do suggest City have ramped up their interest in the defender.
According to Diario as via Sport_Witness, Manchester City are offering the Austrian €15m a season and have put that offer ‘on the table’ to try and convince him to move to the club, which is significantly higher than their biggest competitors for him, Real Madrid, who have are looking at €11m per season.
The 28-year-old current contract expires this summer, with Bayern Munich having stopped contract negotiations in November over the player’s wage demands. He is now able to talk to other club’s to agree a pre-contract for a transfer.
As a versatile player who can play in a variety of positions, Alaba valued at £49.50m via Transfermarkt, would add dynamism to the Citizens backline that has benefitted immensely from summer additions.
It would be an interesting signing given the resurgence of Stones and Dias immediate impact.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra and City Chief, Many Manchester City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
He’d be a good fit for us, he can play LB, CB, CM, CDM, get him in @ManCity

I can’t believe I’m saying this but Cancelo, Dias, Stones, Zinchenko might be the strongest defense in the world right now. I’d rather not make an add that rocks the boat after all the defensive spending/shuffling. Alaba would have to be perfect, but that is absolutely possible.

We don’t need him

Rather just give zinchenko the job instead of overpaying

No – think we can spend that sort of money better elsewhere.

Desperately need to strengthen up front (Haaland), and get more depth at holding midfield…
Haaland should be our first priority but given how poor Mendy’s form has been, bringing in another LB (especially one who can also play at CB or in midfield) is a good move for us. Alaba has proven himself at the top level and would be a good signing for us.
