Some Manchester City fans have been calling for Ruben Dias to be made Player of the Year this season after the Premier League leaders extended their unbeaten run to 25 games with a close win over Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.
The former Benfica defender has instantly strengthened City defence making them the division’s best defensive record in the Premier League, with twelfth clean sheet of that winning run, and their 18th successive win in all competitions.
The 23-year-old started alongside John Stones and completely shut the Gunners out in their own backyard, limiting the gunners to only one shot on target over the 90 minutes, despite having the likes of Aubameyang, Martin Odegaard, Nicolas Pepe and later Alexandre Lacazette.
The impact he has made has been comparable to that of when Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton which propelled them towards their first Premier League title.
The €60m-rated defender has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, having a huge hand in Man City’s 18th win in succession and 25th unbeaten fixture.
Central to such solidity have of course been Dias and resurgent John Stones, but the Portuguese has been the dominant half of the partnership.
Many Skyblues on social media have been calling for the Portuguese international to be made premier league player of the Year this season.
Let me make it clear, Ruben Dias deserves the POTY and there’s no two ways about it.

I think it’s fair to say he’s had a Van Dijk esque impact on this City said. They’re so good defensively, he’s even made Stones look class.
Ruben Dias is definitely one of the contenders for player of the season. The impact he has had on City’s defence is immense. Even Stones has become so good playing next to him. #PremierLeague
