Manchester City fans want to see Pep Guardiola to strike a deal to prise Douglas Luiz back from Villa Park.
The highly-rated midfielder, who is outstanding for Dean Smith’s side has been linked with a return to the Etihad Stadium.
The Brazilian midfielder arrived in English football during the summer of 2017. Work permit issues prevented him from making an impact, with loan spells at Girona before offloading him to Villa in a £15 million ($19m) transfer.
Back playing against the club that brought him to England back in 2017 on Wednesday evening, as they were beaten 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium, Douglas had Gundogan and Silva to contend with with the latter playing in a false nine position as he dropped into the midfield pocket.
The Villa midfielder Showcased a bit of class with a caressed pass under pressure which allowed Villa to beat City’s press. Silva had the last laugh, though, sadly. Thought he created some headlines as his free-kick looked destined for the net.
Luiz enjoyed an all-action display at the Etihad Stadium, racking up three successful dribbles, two shots on target, one tackle won, one interception and one blocked cross.
City fans took to Twitter to react to Luiz’s display, believing that he is a ‘serious baller’ and that City need him back.
Others urged Guardiola to strike a deal, feeling that he passed his audition at the Etihad Stadium last night.

I hope Pep watched Douglas Luiz well, and he’s going to bring him back to Etihad when Fernandinho leaves 👉🏾👈🏾

Aside from our performance, we definitely need to activate Douglas Luiz’ buyback clause. He’s a beast

Rodri was genuinely flawless in that game.

Fernandinho is one of the most dominant headers of the ball for a midfielder, especially defensively…. Luiz wouldn’t give us that, so not a like for like replacement
