Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports of the much talked-about buy-back agreement embedded into the contract of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
The highly-rated midfielder, who is outstanding for Dean Smith’s side has been linked with a return to the Etihad Stadium.
The Brazilian midfielder arrived in English football during the summer of 2017. Work permit issues prevented him from making an impact, with loan spells at Girona before offloading him to Villa in a £15 million ($19m) transfer.
The Brazilian midfielder has been a revelation since leaving the Etihad Stadium and may yet be lured back to the north west from the West Midlands as the Citizens still have a buyback clause to bring Douglas Luiz back to the club.
The Athletic report that the buy-back option – should City wish to trigger – expires on June 5 while it stands at £27.5 million.
The report adds that When word reached Pep Guardiola in 2018 that work-permit issues were preventing Douglas Luiz from playing for City, he sent video footage to the Home Office explaining how the midfielder would be important to his side in the months and years ahead.
City want more quality options in the defensive midfield department with Fernandinho approaching the twilight of his career. A chance to finally play for the club could be on the cards, and it will be interesting to see what happens
In reaction the report shared on twitter by Man City Xtra, man City fans have been discussing the talk of their side’s interest in Luiz and think he could be an ideal replacement for Fernandinho.

How in your mind has Locatelli proven more than Douglas
— Debating Dias (@DebatingDias) January 19, 2021
Just buy him back, play rotation with Rodri, that’s us set in that position for the next 10 years. He may not be absolutely world class but he’d be a great option, Prem proven and has time to improve.
