Eric Garcia will stay with Manchester City after Barcelona failed to meet their valuation with a deadline day move.
The two sides were unable to agree terms as the Catalans failed to match City’s valuation of the 19-year-old. Despite being in the last year of his contract, City refused to drop their demands for the defender.
Barca had been confident of completing a deal on the last day of the window but an offer believed to be around £9 million ($12m) with £6m in add-ons was rejected.
The Blues were after a fee in a similar region to what they paid to Valencia for Ferran Torres, another player who was in the final year of his contract with the club.
Pep Guardiola can once again call upon the services of Garcia as needed, and Barca will have to show patience if they want to finally get their man.
The door could open for Barca as Garcia has made it clear that he does not intend to renew his contract with City – which could see him leave as a free agent next year.
According to the ever reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Garcia told the City board that he’ll join Barcelona in January or next June as a free agent and won’t change his mind.

£5m upfront? If that’s true I’m glad we rejected it. What an insult for a current Spanish international, Garcia should of been open to other clubs – he’s made a dreadful decision & we shouldn’t have him in the 1st team squad unless he signs an extension.

City are now showing their strength and will NOT be pushed around in the transfer market. They will NOT pay over their appraisal for a player and will not let a player go if they do not meet Citys value. It’s not about the money in the short term.

It’s more to do with asking barca a fair price and them playing with us and not paying. 18m they offered was with add ons. Pretty sure most of those addons were unachievable ones which is why we rejected. If barca offered 18m one off payment we would have sold him
