Liverpool Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a comment by former Red icon Steve Nicol wanting Kalidou Koulibaly to partner Virgil van Dijk in the heart of their defence.
It’s no secret the 29-year-old, who is considered one of the world’s best centre-backs is top of Manchester City‘s wanted list in the centre-back department.
The Citizens recently completed the signing of Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake but are believed to still be interested in Koulibaly to finally bring in the leadership skills City lost when Vincent Kompany left the club.
The Senegal international was also thought to be on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side’s radar, according to a report by Italian outlet Tuttosport in June.
Despite recent reports suggests the Citizens have already offered Koulibaly a four-year deal worth around €6.5 million a year, Steve Nicol wants the red to revisit their interest in the Senegalese defender.
Speaking to ESPN , Nicol said: “If I had a wish list then I would wish that Koulibaly would be sat next to Virgil van Dijk.”
In reaction to Nicol’s opinion shared on Twitter by Anfield Edition, Liverpool fans fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions, with many disagreeing with Nicol’s call.
Koulibaly is not Van Dijk’s level. Upamecano is much better.— Jaden Djok (@DjokJaden) August 14, 2020
What’s this obsession with Koulibaly, he’s so average— Naby Shakur (@iknowball1) August 14, 2020
Koulibali is 29 nd overrated nd overpriced. Clearly seen vs barca nd in seriA he commits 7-8 fouls per game . Ben white or upamecano good looking the age— scousser (@Nihal78746975) August 14, 2020
80m for a 29 year old when we have Gomez, VVD and Matip is not a good move. We just need a cheap experienced option for now and see how VDB and Hoever develop in the next 2-3 yrs— Steve Wilson (@SteveWi61031343) August 14, 2020
Over the years I’ve come to realize that Nicol’s opinion matters very little to me 🤷🏼♂️— Virgil Van Keita* (@LFCCanuck) August 14, 2020
With Koulibaly, VVD & Allison in defense,we could turn everyone else into a striker. LOL…seriously why are we back on d Koulibaly talk?I would love to have him but to expensive.Ok for me to miss out on him as long as he doesn’t end up w/ a direct rival. That would be disastrous.— Krishlex G.
