‘We’ll miss you, Merlin’ – Man City & Rival fans react in tears to David Silva’s emotional message

Manchester City fans were left in tears by a simple David Silva message after the Spaniard starred with a goal and two assists as the Magpies were outclassed at the Etihad Stadium.

David Silva nicknamed Merlin by team-mates because of his wizard-like passing abilities joined the club in June 2010 from Valencia. He quickly became a fans’ favourite and has been a key part of the most successful period in the club’s history, winning three Premier League titles, three League Cups and an FA Cup- with the Blues.

The 34-year-old playmaker, who is leaving the club at the end of the season after a decade’s outstanding service, had a scintillating display during Wednesday night’s 5-0 demolition of Newcastle.

The Spaniard scored a sumptuous free-kick and recorded a 10th Premier League assist of the season, a milestone he has reached in each of his 10 years at the Etihad Stadium.

After the game, which could have been one of his last at the Etihad, Silva posted an emotional message to his team-mates on Twitter.
