Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Kevin Phillips has urged John Stones to quit the club and “jump on a train” to sign for Newcastle United
The former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker believes the defender should end his association with the Cityzens and join the Magpies, who are close to a £300m takeover from a Saudi-based consortium.
Much was expected of the Englishman when he arrived at the Etihad Stadium, but the defender has failed to take his game to the next level under Guardiola and has also had injury issues
In an interview with Football Insider, Kevin Phillips has urged John Stones to consider a move to Newcastle United this summer after falling out-of-favour at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.
“I think John Stones should get out of Manchester City. It has not quite worked out for John. He came for big money as a young lad and there was a lot of pressure,” He told.
“I like him, he is a good player and a fresh start somewhere else would do him the world of good. If he could jump on that train at Newcastle – who knows where it could be heading”.
Pep Guardiola has preferred holding midfielder Fernandinho at centre-half at times which is an ominous sign for the former Everton defender.
So far this season, Stones has made 10 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League and has played 49 minutes in the Champions League for City, according to WhoScored.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City X, Manchester City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions
Talking about stones like CITY are the ones holding him down when Pep has literally given him everything.— Matt🥱 (@YanCoutoh) May 28, 2020
We talked the same bullshit 2 or 3 years ago. The problem is his attitude, lack of development, psyche and being injury prone.— insidejoker (@insidejoker111) May 28, 2020
If he jumps on a train to Newcastle who knows where he could be heading? Even I can answer that, Newcastle! 😂 Great player on occasions but too many costly mistakes if he wants to go, then go.— Marcus (@Marcus72219694) May 28, 2020
If we can get close to what we paid for him then I think it would be a good deal all round. At times he’s been close to showing how good he can be but how long do you leave it? He makes me nervous and makes nieve decisions often— Adam Alshammari (@AdamAlshammari) May 28, 2020
He is 26 year old and still only “potentially” good. We should sell him, he does not have the right mentality and is too much injury prone. If we do not sell him now and he gets another bench/injury season we will have bigger problem with selling him.— ⚚ (@thepsilon) May 29, 2020
This woukd be like another new season for him.
💩 1st year
Brilliant 1st half of 2nd year, 💩 2nd half
Decent start to 3rd year, 💩 later
Has been really bad again in the 4th yearPost break it’ll almost be like his 5th season. If he doesn’t perform in these last 11 games, bye👋

Lots of negativity towards Stones, in reality how much would we sell him for and how much would it cost to replace him with a home grown player with similar ability?
