Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Kevin Phillips has urged John Stones to quit the club and “jump on a train” to sign for Newcastle United

The former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker believes the defender should end his association with the Cityzens and join the Magpies, who are close to a £300m takeover from a Saudi-based consortium.

Much was expected of the Englishman when he arrived at the Etihad Stadium, but the defender has failed to take his game to the next level under Guardiola and has also had injury issues

In an interview with Football Insider, Kevin Phillips has urged John Stones to consider a move to Newcastle United this summer after falling out-of-favour at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

“I think John Stones should get out of Manchester City. It has not quite worked out for John. He came for big money as a young lad and there was a lot of pressure,” He told.

“I like him, he is a good player and a fresh start somewhere else would do him the world of good. If he could jump on that train at Newcastle – who knows where it could be heading”.

Pep Guardiola has preferred holding midfielder Fernandinho at centre-half at times which is an ominous sign for the former Everton defender.

So far this season, Stones has made 10 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League and has played 49 minutes in the Champions League for City, according to WhoScored.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City X, Manchester City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions

Lots of negativity towards Stones, in reality how much would we sell him for and how much would it cost to replace him with a home grown player with similar ability?
