Manchester City have decided to let Kalvin Phillips leave the club in the summer transfer window after failing to establish himself at the Etihad Stadium since his move from Leeds United. The midfielder was sent out on loan to West Ham United in January, where he struggled and faced criticism from fans. Man City may find it difficult to sell him due to his high price tag of £40 million, but there are rumors of a possible return to Leeds United as his loan spell at West Ham is not working out.

Phillips has been struggling since joining West Ham on loan and his season may be over due to injury. With rumors of a return to Elland Road circulating, it is possible that he may rejoin his boyhood club if promoted to the Premier League. However, the Hammers are not interested in making his loan deal permanent given his poor performances with the club. Leeds United are currently in the Championship Play Offs and will have to win to secure a spot in the Premier League next season.

It remains to be seen how Manchester City will handle the financial aspects of Phillips’ transfer if potential suitors are unable to meet their valuation. The midfielder’s attempts to impress Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2024 have not gone as planned, and he will need to regain form if he wants to secure a future at a new club. Returning to Leeds United could be a possibility, but much will depend on the outcome of their Championship Play Offs and the financial negotiations between the clubs.
