Manchester City’s unbeaten streak reached a record-breaking 28 matches after their penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League. Despite a dominant performance in the second-leg clash, City fell short in the shoot-out, ending their hopes of defending their Champions League crown and last season’s historic treble.
Despite the penalty shoot-out defeat, Opta have revealed that Manchester City successfully extended their current unbeaten streak to a record-breaking 28 matches on Wednesday night, and are now also unbeaten in 42 successive games at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri’s historic unbeaten streak was also extended to 67 games, with the result of the shoot-out not classified as a defeat according to statisticians.
City still have a chance to win the Premier League and Emirates FA Cup this season, as they face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals and are currently leading the league table.
Even though the outcome was not what City had hoped for, they can take solace in the fact that their unbeaten streaks have made history. With their performances this season, Manchester City continue to be a formidable force in English football, with a chance to secure more silverware in the coming weeks.
