Manchester City officials were approached by Real Madrid executives about potential player transfers during a luncheon before their UEFA Champions League quarter-final match. Despite dominating the second leg, Manchester City suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium, ending their hopes of retaining the European trophy. Real Madrid’s 14-time Champions League wins pushed Manchester City out of the competition, with key penalties saved by Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The tie had started with an enthralling 3-3 draw in the first leg, where Manchester City had initially taken the lead. Although Manchester City had a strong performance in the second leg, goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Rodrygo ended their Champions League campaign. Real Madrid’s interest in Manchester City players, including Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland, was reportedly discussed during the pre-match luncheon. While Silva has been linked to Barcelona in the past, Haaland’s potential transfer to Real Madrid was not discussed.

The exit from the Champions League marked the end of Manchester City’s hopes of a European trophy this season. With Bernardo Silva potentially leaving the club due to an active £50 million release clause, the meeting between Manchester City and Real Madrid officials highlighted possible future transfer dealings between the two clubs. Haaland’s transfer to Real Madrid, despite previous speculations, was not a topic of discussion during the luncheon.
