Manchester City is planning to offer midfielder Rodri a new long-term contract that will double his current salary at the club. The 27-year-old Spaniard has been a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side, with his impressive form earning him a new deal following the conclusion of the European Championship in Germany. Rodri, who scored the winning goal in last season’s UEFA Champions League Final, has been directly involved in 20 goals for Manchester City this season.
Since joining Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019, Rodri has made 247 appearances for the club and won 10 trophies, including three Premier League titles and the Champions League. The club is looking to secure his services for the long term with a new five-year deal. Manchester City has been rewarding senior players with improved contracts recently, with Rodri expected to be the latest player to benefit from his performances.
Rodri’s weekly wages are reportedly set to double from £150,000 to over £300,000, bringing him closer to the club’s highest earners. Talks for the new five-year deal are expected to begin after the European Championships this summer, with Manchester City keen to reward the midfielder for his contributions. The club is also looking to extend the contracts of other key players like Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne during the off-season.
