Manchester City scouts present at recent Liga Portugal clash amid €70 million midfield transfer links

Manchester City scouts were present at a recent Liga Portugal match between Porto and Vitoria SC, continuing their efforts to sign the hottest footballing talent from around the world. The club has been making major additions to both the first-team and their City Football Academy, as well as their network of 13 clubs globally. Teenager Claudio Echeverri completed a £12.5 million move from River Plate to Manchester City, with the 18-year-old midfielder expected to join the club in 2025 from Argentina.

The City Football Group recently signed 14-year-old American prodigy Cavan Sullivan from Philadelphia Union in a seven-figure deal, with the midfielder staying stateside until he turns 18. Despite focusing on CONMEBOL transfers, scouts from the CFG have also been monitoring European games across various countries. Manchester City officials were reportedly at the Porto vs. Vitoria match to evaluate players, with particular interest in 21-year-old defensive midfielder Alan Varela who has a €70 million release clause in his contract.

The Sky Blues have also been linked with another Porto talent, 15-year-old Cardoso Varela, although he has not yet made his first-team debut and can only be watched during UEFA Youth League matches. Manchester City’s continued efforts to scout and sign promising young talent from around the world demonstrate their commitment to building a strong team for the future. With a focus on both South American and European leagues, the club remains active in the transfer market in search of talented players.
