Manchester City officials are investigating Kevin De Bruyne’s illness that caused him to miss the Champions League clash against Real Madrid. The 32-year-old midfielder was sick and unable to play, with Mateo Kovacic taking his place in the starting lineup for the game. Despite De Bruyne’s absence, Manchester City managed to secure a 3-3 draw in an exciting match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The match saw Manchester City take an early lead with a free-kick from Bernardo Silva, but goals from Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo put them ahead. Manchester City fought back with goals from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol, only for Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde to equalize in the 79th minute. De Bruyne is expected to return for the second leg of the quarter-final as Manchester City looks to advance in the Champions League.

De Bruyne returned from illness to play in Manchester City’s Premier League win over Luton Town, extending their unbeaten streak to 27 matches. The unexpected illness prompted an internal review within the club to investigate the cause, as no other players reported sickness during the trip to Madrid. Changes to the pre-match menu, which included pasta, cheese spread, banana bread, and grilled chicken, are being considered as part of the review.
