Manchester City is reportedly looking for a new first-choice right-back in case Kyle Walker leaves this summer. Walker has had a mixed season both on and off the field and was even considering a move to Bayern Munich last year but ultimately stayed with City after being persuaded by Pep Guardiola.
One potential replacement for Walker is Swiss international Manuel Akanji, who was signed by Manchester City for just £15 million from Borussia Dortmund. Akanji has proven to be a bargain, excelling in multiple roles under Guardiola and helping the team win five trophies, including a Treble in his debut season.
Akanji’s latest role has seen him operate as an inverted right-back, allowing John Stones to play in defensive midfield when needed. With interest still looming from Bayern Munich and potential interest from Saudi Arabia and the Pro League, Manchester City are preparing contingency plans if Walker does decide to leave.
