Manchester City are interested in signing West Ham and Brazil’s Lucas Paqueta at a lower price than his release clause. The Premier League champions were close to completing a deal for the midfielder last summer but had to withdraw their interest due to an FA investigation into alleged gambling breaches by Paqueta. City ended up signing Matheus Nunes from Wolves instead.
Despite the release clause being active, Manchester City wants to negotiate a lower fee with West Ham for Paqueta. They are only willing to pay the release clause as a ‘last resort’ and have already reached an agreement with the midfielder. City is also looking at other midfield options, including Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich, with hopes of finding a stand-in for Rodri.
While Musiala may not be a feasible option for City, they are hopeful of signing Kimmich at a reduced fee. The German international’s contract with Bayern runs until the end of next season, making him a potential target for the Etihad club. City continues to explore different options for their midfield, with negotiations for Paqueta and other players ongoing.
