Alan Shearer has named Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Josko Gvardiol in his Premier League Team of the Week, praising De Bruyne for being the best player on the pitch and Gvardiol for his impressive display including a crucial goalline clearance in their win against Nottingham Forest. Both players played key roles in helping City stay in the title race.
Despite a tough game against Forest, City managed to secure a 2-0 win with goals from Gvardiol and Erling Haaland. Guardiola admitted they were lucky to win, with Forest having higher xG figures. Shearer also included Burnley’s Arijanet Muric, Everton’s James Tarkowski, and Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara in defense, as well as Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, and Everton’s Idrissa Gueye in midfield in his Team of the Week.
Up front, Shearer selected West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, and Arsenal’s Kai Havertz. The win against Forest helped City stay one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand as they aim to maintain momentum in the title race with four fixtures remaining.
